Quilt Top Preparation
The Quilting Fee is calculated based on the Total Square Inches of your Quilt Top. Calculation is: (Quilt Top Length x Quilt Top Width) x 0.025.
The maximum Quilt Top width I am able to accept is 120″.
If your Quilt Top is not square there could be issues with the quilting process.
Your Quilt Top “Top Border” is used to load your Quilt on to the Longarm. A straight horizontal Basting line is sewn across the Batting and then the Top Border of your Quilt Top is basted on along that Basting line. This helps to ensure the Quilt Top starts off straight along the top edge. The Side Borders are used to help keep the sides of your Quilt straight as the Quilt is rolled up through the quilting process. As the quilt is quilted any “fullness” in the Quilt top is pushed down to the bottom. If this happens the Bottom edge of your Quilt will not be straight. I do my best to try to manipulate the quilt to get as close to straight along the edge as I can, however, there is only so much I can do to “make” it straight.
Handi-Quilter has a great youtube on how to “Square” your Quilt Top that can be found here.
If your Quilt top has any “fullness” or “excess fabric” you could have “puckers” and/or “pleats” that occur during quilting. Accurate cutting, 1/4″ seams and nesting your seams, along with starching and ironing well while piecing will help greatly.
Please remove any loose threads from the Quilt Top and inspect all seams to ensure they are secure. Outside seams should be secured with either back-stitching while piecing or you can sew a “stay-stitch” around the perimeter of the Quilt Top.
